This blog was originally going to be used to promote my upcoming novel, but in light of the #OccupyWallSt movement, I've decided to cover that instead. If you don't know what Occupy Wall Street is, it's probably becase the main stream media has refused to cover the ralley, despite the fact that a Tea Party ralley a fraction of the size would have recieved plenty.
On September 17th protestors flooded into Liberty Plaza to begin protesting the corruption in Wall Street. It's no secret that the United States and many other countries have been struggling for several years now. As Americans, we like to shuffle the blame off onto our presidents; but let's be realistic. Anyone who went to high school should know that the President of the United States has very limited powers; he can't really change anything. So blaming Clinton or Bush or Obama is about as effective as lighting farts to keep warm.
The real problem lies within Congress and the Senate. Anyone who cares to sit down and take a look at our economic system knows that these bodies were pocketed by what is commonly refered to as "Big Money". I don't know about you, but I just cannot afford a lobbyist.
Anyway, despite attempts to black us out, the Occupy Wall Street movement has begun to fireball. What began as a ralley in NYC has become a global movement; and we don't plan to stop until we've gotten what we want. What do we want? Well, a tentative list of our demands has been posted; narrowing them down is a democratic process. Personally, I would like to see everything on that list come to frutition; but some things may be shaved off eventually.
For my part in the movement, I have been spreading the word everywhere possible. I've watched our Facebook page grow from a little over 1,000 to over 10,000 in likes. Given the lack of media coverage, our growth has been astounding. Social networking has been a miracle to our cause.
Thanks to #Carpool to Occupy Wall St I have found a potential ride to join the Wall Street protests myself. If all goes well, we will be departing on Tuesday; and I'm looking foward to reporting from location!
If you would like to keep up with our movement on Wall Street, feel free to watch our live feed and join in the discussion; and don't forget to check back in for updates!
